okkyung lee - nihm (tza 7715)

Born in Taejon, Korea, Okkyung Lee moved to Boston in 1996, where she received degrees in film scoring and improvisation. A ubiquitous figure in the downtown scene since 2000, her playing is passionate and uncompromising. For her debut CD she has created a sensitive suite drawing inspiration from her Korean roots, the world of mystery and the world of love. Featuring many of the musicians she has grown close to in the past several years, Nihm is a brilliantly conceived collection of music blending composition and improvisation in surprising new ways.

Christian Marclay-turntable, electronics / Okkyung Lee-cello + My Cat Is An Alien (Maurizio and Roberto Opalio) (OPx 007LP)

The 7th in Opax Records' "From the Earth To the Spheres" split vinyl LP series. Each LP in the series has split the sides between My Cat Is an Alien's Maurizio & Roberto Opalio and another compatible artist or group. In this case the artist is a duo, Okkyung Lee and Christian Marclay, from a performance in NY at Tonic in 2003. MCIAA's side is also a live recording from Italy in 2002. This excellent package is a limited edition art release of 100 copies, and includes an original acrylic painting by Roberto Opalio on a 31x31cm wooden support, individually signed by the artist.
